Assistant Professor of the Practice of Romance Studies
Deb Reisinger, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in Romance Studies, affiliate faculty in the Duke Global Health Institute and Associate Director of the Markets and Management Studies program.
Reisinger teaches courses in French for Specific Purposes, including global health, business, and marketing. She is the author of Crime and Media in Contemporary France (Purdue Press, 2007), as well as numerous articles on language pedagogy, intercultural competence, and French for Specific Purposes. Her current research focuses on Central African refugee resettlement and community-based learning. She is co-authoring a book, Community-based Language Learning: A Framework for Educators, with Joan Clifford (Georgetown Press, 2018).
Reisinger directs the Duke in Montréal program each summer, which focuses on Quebec's vibrant arts industry. On campus, she is Director of the Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum (CLAC) initiative, and oversees courses in 8 languages in environmental studies, public policy, and global health.
Reisinger is currently Chair of the College Board's World Languages Academic Advisory Committee. She is also the College Board Advisor for the French AP exam, and serves on the AP exam development committee. Since 2013, she has served as Chair of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) Commission on French for Specific Purposes.
