Meet the New Faces of MMS

Over the course of this academic year, many new faces have joined the Markets & Management Studies Certificate program. Whether through teaching or supporting the program, the MMS faculty and staff are excited to help you through your Duke journey. Learn more about the newest members of the MMS faculty and staff team.

Rick Singer
Rick Singer

Rick joins the MMS program after having spent 6 years as CEO of the Tiger Woods Foundation, an educational foundation for the advancement of youth where he managed 80 employees and crafted the foundation’s strategy. Prior to the Woods foundation, Rick spent 16 years with IBM in a variety of positions including Vice President of Sports Marketing. He earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern.

Rick wants to find ways to bring his experiences to students getting ready to begin their careers, and he feels so fortunate that he has been able to do that at Duke. He and his wife Cindy live in Apex. When not getting ready for class, he loves playing golf or rooting on his Chicago Bulls and Bears.

He currently teaches Sociology 355 Organizations and Management and will teach MMS 197 Organizational Leadership and Management for the certificate this fall.

Shep Moyle
Shep Moyle

Shep Moyle has over 30 years of experiences as a CEO, owner and entrepreneur who scaled his e-commerce business Shindigz to generate over $2 billion in revenue in 55 countries. Earlier in his career, he worked at Frito Lay where he created and introduced Restaurant Style Tostitos, after graduating from Duke and Harvard Business School. He is a past International Chairman of the Young Presidents Organization, past President of the Duke Alumni Association and past member of the Duke University Board of Trustees. He is currently active as a CEO coach, board member, Angel investor and start-up mentor.

Shep has traveled to over 100 countries, is an avid triathlete and is passionate about transforming “bench to bedside” to speed cures to patients. 

He will be teaching Sociology 359 The Sociology of Entrepreneurship in the fall of 2023.

Jessica Ellington
Jessica Ellington

Jessica joined the Markets & Management family as Senior Program Coordinator the fall of 2022. Jessica comes from the Department of Sociology where she began her Duke career in 2005. Throughout her time in Sociology, she has served many roles, most recently as the Director of Graduate Program Assistant (DGSA) for the Sociology PhD Program. During her time with the PhD program she has helped guide over 100 students through the PhD process. While doing so, she has received many dissertation acknowledgments and has been recognized by students as a mentor who “Made all the Difference” in their Duke experience.

In 2022, Jessica was one of four recipients of the Dean’s Pillar of Excellence Award for her outstanding contribution to Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. The award is presented annually to non-teaching staff making significant contributions to the excellence of the school through their commitment to service, initiative, outstanding leadership, increased efficiency, enthusiasm, collaboration, mentoring and diversity.

When she’s away from Duke, Jessica is an avid DIY enthusiast. She loves tackling home renovation projects inside and out. She also enjoys spending time at the beach or in the NC mountains. Mostly, she enjoys spending time with her family.
