Course Correction: How MMS Courses Changed Student Clara Love's Path

Love

I made the decision to join the MMS Certificate program very early in my freshman fall semester. Now as a second semester sophomore, I couldn’t be happier that I did!

Originally, coming into college I had a keen interest in strictly strategy consulting and economics, leading me to the MMS certificate as an outlet to get the business studies education that isn’t offered anywhere else on campus. When I signed up for my first couple of MMS classes during my freshman fall, I decided to go with an economics based course and a marketing/branding course. At this point in my life, I didn’t know anything about marketing, but knew that economics was the path for me… or at least, that’s what I thought!

After taking both courses, I recognized that I was not only losing interest in straightforward economics but also falling in love with marketing and branding. Luckily, the MMS department has plenty of courses in just about any area of business one could ever wish to study, so I was able to sign up for classes that were completely different from what I originally thought I wanted to focus on, but still within what would be considered “business” curriculum.

I had no idea that I would develop an interest in something like marketing/branding during my time in college and wouldn’t have gotten the chance to discover my passion for it without the MMS program. What the MMS program did for me is a really good example of just how diverse the courses within the Certificate can be and how eye opening the courses truly are.
